Dora Cooper was born and raised in Newfoundland and Labrador. She was introduced to art in school where she studied first under Frank Lapointe, and then Reginald Sheppard. More recently, she has studied under Ed Roche and Don Short and is an active member of the Board of the “Art Association of Newfoundland and Labrador” and a member of the “Realists Artists Association of Newfoundland and Labrador”. She has been featured in magazines and newspaper articles; and was awarded “Best of Show” in 2006 by the Realist Artist Association of Newfoundland and Labrador for her painting, “Gullsongs”. Her work is in private collections in North America, New Zealand and Europe.

While her subject matter is varied, her medium of choice for her paintings is acrylics. She likes to spend time each summer traveling in the province with her husband and indulging in another of her hobbies, photography. The scenery and wildlife in our province are amazing and provide ample subjects for her work. Dora currently works full time and lives St. John’s. She spends her spare time painting at home in her studio.
