Marie-Jose Williams was born on the French islands of Saint-Pierre et Miquelon. Soon after, her family moved to Quebec where she grew up. As a child, she enjoyed watching her father paint and doing so, she developed a taste for art. As a teen, she began making portraits and traveled throughout Europe. While there, she spend a lot of time visiting museums and cathedrals where she could admire the work of the great masters of art such as Leonardo Da Vinci and Rubens.
She renewed her interest in art five years ago when she enrolled in a watercolor class with George Jarvis. She has been painting with him and a group of watercolorists ever since. She also likes to learn new skills by reading art books and magazines and by viewing art galleries wherever she goes. She is a member of the Art Associated of Newfoundland and Labrador and recently joined the Visual Artists Newfoundland & Labrador. She has sold painting at the “Art Association of Newfoundland & Labrador Annual Exhibition and Sale” and has sold reproductions in different outlets.
Most of her paintings are in watercolor, but she has also worked in pen and ink for a newspaper and has illustrated children’s books. She enjoys experimenting with different mediums techniques and styles. “There is no end to what you can do as an artist. That’s what makes it so fascinating!”
Having spent 23 years in Newfoundland, she has settled in the beautiful town of Conception Bay South, where she lives with her husband and children Caroline and Nicholas.
