The CN trains in Newfoundland were nicknamed the Newfie Bullet, a sarcastic name given based on how slow the trains actually were. Every year on the 24th of May weekend, the Newfie Bullet would make a run from St. John’s to Argentia, dropping people off at fishing ponds along the way. This run became known as “The Trouter’s Special”. In October 1988 the railway in Newfoundland was abandoned, and “The Trouter’s Special” was no more. I painted "Last Run of Trouter's Special" for my friend, Florence Wood, from a photograph she had. After a long, courageous battle with Cancer, Florence passed away, willing the painting back to me. I decided to make “ Last Run of Trouter’s Special” my first print, in her memory. I also hope that it will be special to all of you who have fond memories of the trains in Newfoundland, and, in particular, the Trouter’s Special.
